Lucky Paul, aka Paul Taylor, is originally from New Zealand and has lived in many places since. He now lives between Los Angeles, wherever his mobile studio campervan happens to be, and whatever tour he's playing on. He works across many facets of sound, but is a percussionist at heart, having studied traditional music in cultures around the world for over a decade, including Brazil, India, and Korea. He has also worked with many artists as a touring and recording drummer/percussionist, including Feist, Jamie Lidell, Moses Sumney, Lianne La Havas, Aqualung, Beth Orton, Rodrigo Amarante, Mocky, and Chilly Gonzales, alongside releasing his own music. Over the years, he has spent a lot of time using technology to customize his own approach to music making, allowing him to create with a very open and spontaneous style. He has developed an instrument that allows him to sample and loop sounds from whatever moment he finds himself in — whether from his surroundings, people he's playing music with, objects he comes across, or happenstance occurrences that interest him musically. He then adds samples and synths as he goes, creating live electronic music entirely on the spot. Eventually, he hopes to build an instrument like the one he uses himself for others to create their own sounds with.
